Q&A

Now that the Padres are paying me $30,000 a game to play for the Cubs, who do you think they will pick up to keep from finishing with the worst record in baseball?

J. Edmonds       Chicago, Illinois

The astute braintrust of Moores, Towers and Alderson are waiting to hear back from Cecil Fielder, Eddie Murray, Willie Wilson, Stormin' Gorman Thomas, Vince Coleman, and George Foster.   It was absolutely impossible to foresee the dearth of power and speed in the lineup prior to the start of the season.

NFL Man of the Year my ass!  Jason Taylor is NFL Pansy of the Year in my book.  I don't know how she shows her face in this locker room again.   What's your take?

B. Parcells        Miami, Florida

Easy Tuna.  Instead of fixating on JT sashaying around the dance floor, I'd check out his partner Edyta.   What a hottie!  She and most of the other female dancers on that show are smokin' hot.  Even Kristi Yamaguchi looked pretty damn good each week.

I'm 89 years old and a major television network just paid me $100,000 for a 2 1/2 minute segment about what's in, on, and around my desk.  Is this a great country or what?

A. Rooney     New York, New York

Sure is.  It was a surreal experience watching that piece last Sunday night.  I can't imagine where you go from there.  However, if there's anybody who can top that one it's you.

Rancho Penasquitos! Lemon Grove! Fallbrook! Encinitas! Fairbanks Ranch! Oceanside! Rancho Cucamonga!!  I want to talk sports with you!!  This just in off the high speed sports wire:  The New York Giants beat the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl.

L. Hamilton     San Diego, California

Thanks for that newsflash, Hacksaw.  However, I will briefly comment on the ongoing Spygate debacle:  Belichek is a bad guy and a pervasive cheater.  Let's all turn the page now, shall we.  Arlen Specter:  Isn't there something else you and your fellow senators can investigate?

I read a couple of books every week and Dan Brown is the single best writer that I've come across.  His books are absolutely brilliant.  What do you think?

J.S        Spring Valley, California

Well, I do admit that Brown is a compelling storyteller, however, he does take "a few" liberties with the facts.  I'm glad you enjoy reading his books though.

In the five years that you've played fantasy basketball your teams have finished in first place 3 times, 2nd place once, and just out of the money the other year (under shady circumstances).   How does it feel to be so lucky?

M.R.D.       Prescott, Arizona

Yep, nothing but blind luck.  Both my partner, Dean, and I know next to nothing about basketball.  Most of the time last season we simply picked the player with the coolest name and hoped for the best.   We weren't sure which team Jamario Moon & Jose Calderon played for but both guys put up pretty good numbers for us.

In your opinion, what has been the most pleasantly surprising scene in a mainstream movie?

H. Berry       Hollywood, California

Other than your romp with Billy Bob a few years back in Monster's Ball, I'd have to say it's the opening scene of "Before The Devil Knows You're Dead."  It's always nice seeing an Oscar winner down on all fours before the opening credits finish rolling...well, unless it's Dame Judi Dench.

P.S.  This is an example of information that I feel you just need to know.

What about as far as guys are concerned?  What would you recommend?

R. Seacrest         Hollywood, California

Not my cup of tea, but check out "Flannel Pajamas" with Andy from "Weeds."  You might find a couple of scenes that you'll enjoy.

Whenever I came to San Diego to play the Padres, I always went down to TJ.  Next time I'm in town, do you want to hit a couple of clubs south of the border?

R. Clemens       Houston, Texas

Ah, I think I'll pass Rocket.  Besides, the drinking age is 18 in Mexico and that might be a little old for you.
