Hitting the Links - Andy, Grandpa John, Dashtacular Dozen & Chick Flicks

Andy's Latest

I hate to keep picking on an 89 year old man, but Andy Rooney's segment last night on "60 Minutes" was another classic - www.cbsnews.com/sections/60minutes/rooney/main3419.shtml.  At least this time Andy left the friendly confines of his office to film the two-minute piece.  For those interested, I think you'll also be able to see the one he did about the things in, on, and around his desk that I referenced in an earlier post.  Enjoy!

Grandpa John's Proposal

It certainly sounds a little gimmicky, but I like John McCain's proposal to award a $300,000,000 "government prize" to the person who develops an automobile battery that surpasses existing technology - www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=D91FU4PG0&show_article=1.   Maybe J Mac isn't as out of touch as I once thought...

Dashtacular Dozen Reaction

While Grandpa John is proposing $300 million, the SD Sports Guy is offering $300 to anyone who knows all twelve of the Dashtacular Dozen without needing search engine assistance.  A couple readers have said that 1/3 to 1/2 of the names on the list are too obscure.   Perhaps, but can you really disagree with any of the selections after taking a few minutes to view the visual evidence?  Also, more than one person objected to the inclusion of Scarlett Johansson on the list.  Ms. J is often hit or miss with me, however, I submit the following as Exhibit A:  www.softpicks.net/screenshots/Scarlett-Johansson-Sexy-Hot-Screensaver.jpg.   Your honor:  The Defense Rests.

Chick Flicks

I'm comfortable enough with my own sexuality and am not ashamed to admit that I enjoy the occasional chick flick.  Now, I'm not talking about movies like "Fried Green Tomatoes", "Beaches", or "Steel Magnolias."  Any guy with an ounce of testosterone isn't going to cop to enjoying those three.  However, I do appreciate well made romantic comedies and I watched one last night called "P.S. - I Love You."   This RomCom can definitely be described as a chick flick and is by no means a great movie.  It's at least thirty minutes too long, contrived and often manipulative.  With that said though, I did think several of the actors and actresses were quite good.   Lisa Kudrow and Harry Connick Jr. were more than tolerable while Kathy Bates turned in yet another solid performance.   As long as Kathy refrains from anymore hot tub scenes  (see "About Schmidt" for the...gulp...visuals) she is a lock to deliver in any role.   Hillary Swank also did a nice job and I think that I can officially add her to the stable of women I find myself oddly attracted to - www.esquire.com/women/women-we-love/swank0407#img.  So move over Chelsea - www.flickr.com/photos/stevehopson/2317504582/ and make some room for Ms. Swank.
