A Few More NBA Draft Thoughts, Baker's Dozen, and A Great Link

After posting last night I flipped on ESPN News and found out about the blockbuster Mayo-Love deal.  Once I was able to get my head around all of the players involved, my initial reaction was to compliment the much maligned Mr. McHale.  Although K Mac was instrumental in the Celtics becoming NBA champions this season by hand delivering KG to his old buddy Danny Ainge, he redeemed himself a bit by pulling off this trade.  Just getting rid of Marko Jaric alone deserves props.  The Timberwolves now have a solid nucleus of young players.  With Jefferson, Love, Miller, Telfair (inconsistent, but not that bad), and Foye starting and Gomes, Smith, Collins, Brewer, and McCants coming off the bench, the future certainly looks bright in Minnesota.

As far as the Grizzlies are concerned, Mayo should sell some tickets and form a nice one-two punch with Rudy Gay.  That is, if he stays in Memphis.  Obviously, another trade has to be made with all of the guards currently on the roster.  Since Riles looked like death warmed over after drafting Beasley, if I'm Chris Wallace I would be on the phone trying to make one last ditch effort to get MB.  Wouldn't a Kyle Lowry, Jaric, and Mayo for Beasley, Blount, and Banks deal be a win-win?  The Heat would relieve themselves of the Blount & Banks baggage while acquiring the player Riles really wants along with a talented point guard in Lowry.  The Grizz get a sure to be a star PF to team on the front line with Gay while dumping Jaric and his unsavory contract.  This just makes a little too much sense so it probably won't happen...

By the way, word was that Riley initially demanded Gay, Miller, Mike Conley, and the #5 for Beasley and some spare parts.  Not even Chris Wallace would go for that one.  I suppose it never hurts to ask, but the absurdity of it reminded me of past offers that I've received in my fantasy basketball league from a guy named Marxie.  Perhaps one day I'll list a few of those for your reading enjoyment.  High comedy...

The NBA Draft is always one of my favorite days of the year.  Usually, the commentators do a decent job, but this time I thought the telecast was really substandard.  A dream team Stu Scott, SAS, JVG, Jay "Motor" Bilas, and Mark Jackson are not.  I could go into chapter and verse here, but it's probably better to sum up my feelings by linking to another site that did a pretty thorough analysis earlier today...

There are probably a few million guys out there who play fantasy sports on a regular basis...and about six women.   One day I'll tackle the half-dozen women who enjoy it, but during the next week or so I plan to briefly address the eight sub categories of Fantasy Guy:  1) In Denial Guy 2) Snarky Guy 3)  Refuses to Participate Guy 4) Never Pays Attention Guy 5) Paper Tiger Guy 6) New Guy 7) Glutton for Punishment Guy and 8) Belligerent Guy.  So stay tuned...
