Wrong Site Fellas, 08' Has Been Great, M&M, and DVD of the Week

How did these guys get here? Hmmmm. The BATWOTSDSG must have been on my computer...

2008 has been great...at least as far as sports are concerned. A number of remarkable, memorable, astounding, and riveting events/stories in the world of sports have taken place in a relatively short period of time. From the Giants stunning Super Bowl victory over what was thought to be an invincible Patriots team to March Madness to the Celtics dominance during the regular season in the East to the exhilarating playoff race down the stretch in the West to Boston defeating the hated Lakers in the NBA Championship to Tiger's magical U.S. Open all the way to Sunday's incredible duel into the darkness at Wimbledon, it has been a fabulous six months. What could possibly be next? Perhaps it will be the Tampa Bay Rays winning the World Series in October or maybe even...gulp...the Milwaukee Brewers. Could one of these two perennial doormats really win it all? The Brewers haven't been relevant since the days of Harvey's Wallbangers in the early 80's. However, with yesterday's acquisition of C.C. Sabathia there is once again reason for optimism in Milwaukee. Even if it's only a three month rental until Sabathia signs in New York for untold millions, the Brewers' front office deserves credit for taking a shot. This California transplant will certainly be rooting for them...

One of the loyal and faithful wondered what Mike Golic brought to the table on the Mike & Mike Show other than some good football stories from time to time. Having heard Mr. Golic only sporadically over the past couple of years I didn't have much of an opinion. However, after listening to M&M on ESPN Radio recently I'd have to concur: He brings next to nothing. Hosting a radio show is a lot tougher than it seems. Despite my criticism of Colin Cowherd and Jim Rome back in May, it's indisputable that these guys possess a great deal of talent. When Dan Patrick first started hosting a radio show with Rob Dibble, I thought he was awful. Now, several years later without the dead weight of Dibble around, DP has really come into his own. Patrick's guest list is superb and he seems very comfortable on the air. Conversely, Mr. Golic is clunky and reminds me of an Ed McMahonesque second banana blurting out "You are correct, sir!" at least eight times every show. Hopefully for Golic's sake he doesn't have a wife like Ed's who runs up $750K American Express bills...

"Charlie Wilson's War" starring the sure and steady Tom Hanks is the DVD pick of the week. This movie simply should be not be missed. It's informative, thought provoking, educational, witty, humorous, and Phillip Seymour Hoffman is in it. Whether he's in a supporting role or carrying a movie, Hoffman delivers every time. The guy is brilliant. If there is a better 40 year old actor out there right now with greater range than PSH I haven't seen him...

You're right on with Golic. Mike Greenberg should have walked out of the studio years ago, a la Adam Carolla when forced to sit across from Danny Bonaduce.
Save your $5 and skip "Charlie Wilson's War" and revisit the classic "Back to the Future". It never disappoints. Or the consistantly funny "Cheap Seats" reruns.

I've enjoyed Carolla for years. Unfortunately his radio show isn't on anymore in San Diego. However, every time I head up to LA in the morning I'm listening to the Ace Man.
"Back to the Future"...really? I haven't seen that one in a couple decades. Perhaps it's worth another look. Just don't try to tell me that Michael J. Fox made a convincing basketball player in "Teen Wolf."
"Cheap Seats" with those wacky Sklar brothers was a show I never really got into watching regularly. I've tried listening to them when they guest host for Jim Rome when he's on vacation and have had to switch to another station after ten minutes. They were pretty good on "Entourage" though...
