#1 Export, Favre Saga, Reunion, and Bongos

Sorry BMW and Mercedes-Benz, the best German export in my lifetime has been Claudia Schiffer...

The Brett Favre Saga continues in Green Bay. According to this article, the current and former team presidents of the Packers both think Brett will stay retired. I sure hope they're right. Here's what I wrote a few days ago after news broke about Favre wanting to return to the team:
As I guy who was born and raised in Wisconsin, I do have a thought or two about Brett Favre's recent itch. Unlike John Madden who is absolutely obsessed with #4, I am merely a fan. Favre has displayed true grit, toughness, and leadership over the past 17 seasons and 275 consecutive starts. The Packers have been fortunate to have him as their quarterback for such a long period of time. While Favre does have something left in the tank, it's abundantly clear that he isn't the same player. Although Aaron Rodgers is sure to take some lumps, it's time to find out if he can really play. Following a legend isn't easy and Rodgers certainly hasn't made it any easier by recently saying, "I don't feel I need to sell myself to the fans. They need to get on board now or keep their mouths shut." Despite this lack of diplomacy and tact I think it's time for the Aaron Rodgers Era in Green Bay to begin. If the kid goes down with a serious injury or fails miserably then perhaps consideration should be given to bringing Favre back. If not, Mike McCarthy and Ted Thompson shouldn't be doing any scratching...
I still stand by every word, although this columnist does make some decent points...namely that Favre would be one of the top nine QB's in the league if he came back. While this is likely true, it's really an indictment of the ineptitude of the other NFL quarterbacks rather than a commendation of Favre. If Brett forces the issue and is eventually granted his release, so be it. I'd prefer not to see him stumbling around the backfield as the quarterback of the Miami Dolphins or Carolina Panthers, but that could very well happen come September...

As you've probably already heard, Dan & Keith (sporting a very Giambiesque mustache) are back together again on NBC's "Cluster$%&# Night In America." Only this time there will be five additional guys on the set with them. I just don't understand why the old axiom Less Is More isn't used by the producers of these sports shows. Bob Costas, Chris Collinsworth, Olbermann and Patrick all love to talk and each one of them thinks he is the smartest person in the room. Putting them all on the same show at once makes absolutely no sense. Nobody from NBC has called to ask me, but here's what I'd recommend: 1) Kick Costas to the curb as it's obvious that football really isn't his strength 2) Put either Barber or Bettis on waivers as they are redundant. Tiki has plenty of other duties at NBC so I'd probably keep The Bus and 3) Have Peter King do a remote segment as he simply isn't needed on the set. That leaves four and in my opinion less would definitely be more...

Matthew McConaughy's girlfriend gave birth to a baby boy on Tuesday. I guess the dazed and confused Wooderson now has a chip off the old block who he can teach to play bongos in the buff.
