Penelope, Scarlett, Brooke & Hitting the Links

While Big Brother Bill analyzes movies like "Karate Kid", "Teen Wolf", and "Victory", on this blog you'll find recommendations regarding more recent releases. A lot of reviewers use a 'Star' system with five stars going to phenomenal movies and one star going to the clunkers. Rather than using stars, the San Diego Sports Guy will now be awarding t-shirts on a scale of 1-5. Here are a few brief comments about two movies that I had a chance to see during the past couple of weeks:
"Vicky Cristina Barcelona" - Typical Woody Allen movie...although the Wood Man didn't appear on screen in this one. Penelope Cruz, Scarlett Johansson, and Javier Bardem were all exceptional. Cruz in particular delivered a number of explosively memorable scenes. However, the third female lead, Rebecca Hall, bugged the crap out of me for nearly the entire ninety minutes. Woody has had more misses than hits the past decade or so, but this little movie was certainly better than average and deserves three t-shirts.
"Smart People" - You're either going to love or hate this quirky movie and thanks to Thomas Haden Church I ended up in the love category. Pound for pound, Haden Church is the best comedic supporting actor working today. Dennis Quaid plays against type as a depressed college professor and Ellen Page gives a very Junoesque performance (although this movie was actually filmed first) as his daughter. I doubt Church will be given any Oscar consideration in February 2009, but if I had a vote he would definitely get a nomination...
More Burke

Within the next couple of hours, "Good Morning America" is supposed to be announcing who will be on "DWTS." Just in case Brooke Burke doesn't make the final cut here is one more picture...
And here's one of 82-year old Cloris Leachman. One of Brooke's likely competitors...
Hitting the Links - A couple quick links from the past few days...
In the Who Knew Department, I just discovered that adult kickball leagues are prevalent all across the country. I really didn't think anyone over the age of ten still played kickball, but evidently there are organized leagues in almost every state. This certainly isn't life altering information, but something I found interesting...
Shawn Kemp is very serious about his comeback and recently performed well in an exhibition game. I was half kidding about the Bucks making a run at Kemp within the next year, but the idea may not be so far fetched. Hell, I'd definitely take Kemp right now over a guy like Samaki Walker (who apparently is being considered by John Hammond to be a back-up power forward on the Milwaukee roster)...
