Millen, Weekley, Klum, Politicians & Aiken Coming Out

Well, at least we now know that Detroit Lions vice chairman Bill Ford isn't insane or being blackmailed by Matt Millen.  When asked to discuss the team's performance, Ford said that significant changes needed to be made and Millen should leave the team.   However, Lions owner William Clay Ford has the final say and for some reason remains enamored with Mr. Millen.  It's also interesting to note that Clay Ford doesn't think cheerleaders are needed.  Keeping Millen around is bad enough, but it's simply blasphemy not to have any cheerleaders on the sidelines...

Boo Weekley has been characterized as a redneck hillbilly by several publications, but I enjoyed his display of jubilant emotion after leaving the first tee box Sunday morning.   If you haven't seen it, check out this link of Boo doing his Happy Gilmore impression...

Here is a picture of Heidi Klum to cheer up all the Europeans who are still depressed about the Ryder Cup loss...

"When the federal government wanted to give Alaska hundreds of millions of dollars for the bridge to nowhere I said thanks, but no thanks."  I must have heard Sarah Palin say this a dozen times already and I just can't get it out of my head.  Everyone knows the old joke about how to tell when a politician is lying and the punchline has absolutely nothing to do with whether it's a Republican or Democrat.  As far as I'm concerned, every single one of them will say and do anything to be elected and stay in office.

I briefly wrote about the Palin action figure doll earlier this month (yes, it really exists but I don't think Sarah is in a one-piece bathing suit and sash).   I'm not positive, but I wouldn't be surprised if a Hillary doll that says, "I was ducking sniper fire in Bosnia", a Bill doll that says, "I did not have sexual relations with that woman", and a Larry Craig doll that says, "I use a wide stance" can also be purchased as well.   I guess if you say the same thing over and over you can convince yourself that it's the truth...

A top entertainment story tomorrow will probably be Clay Aiken's shocking revelation on People.com that he is gay.  Perhaps Aiken will also tearfully acknowledge that he has a few freckles under all that makeup he wears.  While I do understand a professional athlete's reticence, I'm not really clear why some people in the entertainment industry are so reluctant to come out.  For example, when Neil Patrick Harris recently revealed his homosexuality it wasn't a big deal at all.  I thought the guy was hilarious in "Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle" and snippets that I've seen of "How I Met Your Mother" where he plays a womanizing cad are also pretty funny.  The fact that he's gay doesn't alter my opinion of him at all.

There are other high profile news and entertainment figures who at some point in the future may admit to being gay or bisexual.  Allegations have been floating around for years about Anderson Cooper, Oprah Winfrey, Kevin Spacey, Will Smith, and Tom Cruise.  You know what?  With or without an admission, Cooper is still a top-notch journalist, Winfrey is one of the most influential entertainers in history, Spacey is a brilliant actor, Smith is one of the most talented performers of his generation, and Cruise despite some odd views is also an exceptional actor.  Are any or all of the aforementioned people gay or bisexual?  I don't know and frankly I really don't care.  Whether they are or not is a moot point as far as I'm concerned and most people probably feel the same way...
