Trevor, Don't Let The Door Hit You In The Ass & DWTS

While I realize he is the all-time MLB leader in saves, Trevor Hoffman hasn't really been an elite closer in several years. The numbers are still semi-decent, but Hoffman's 41 years old and coming off a year in which he went 3-6 with a 3.77 ERA and 30 saves (in 34 chances). For these stats in a total of 45 innings pitched, Trevor was paid $7.5 million. Evidently, the Padres offered him a contract for $4 million plus incentives a few weeks ago and then yanked it off the table on Monday after failing to get a response. Now Hoffman will likely finish his career pitching in Cleveland or somewhere other than San Diego. As far as I'm concerned so be it. The Padres are one of the worst teams in baseball with or without this aging "bullpen ace."
It would have been nice to get something of value for Hoffman a few years back, but that would have made entirely too much sense. Reportedly, the Padres are now on the verge of trading Jake Peavy to the Atlanta Braves. Hopefully a couple of experienced major league players will be heading to San Diego in the deal. If it's just a slew of prospects, then bet your next mortgage payment that the Padres will have the worst record in baseball next season...

Now that it's down to the final four on DWTS, let's look back at how the SDSG set the odds prior to the start of the season on 9/15/08:
"Celebrity" Opening Odds Current Odds
Kim Kardashian 30:1 15:1
Lance Bass 4:1 4:1
Toni Braxton 5:2 5:2
Brooke Burke 2:1 6:1
Maurice Greene 40:1 35:1
Cody Linley 35:1 30:1
Susan Lucci 20:1 20:1
Misty May-Treanor 7:1 7:1
Rocco Dispirito 30:1 40:1
Cloris Leachman 100:1 150:1
Jeff Ross 75:1 100:1
Warren Sapp 18:1 8:1 (Big Warren is moving up the board)
Ted McGinley 45:1 40:1
After Maurice Greene was sent packing last night, the final four "celebrities" are now Lance Bass, Brooke Burke, Warren Sapp and Cody Linley. I seldom toot my own horn, but it has played out pretty much like I thought it would except for the early exit by Toni Braxton and the forced withdrawal of Misty May-Treanor due to injury. Big Warren Sapp and Lance Bass have done well, but look for Brooke Burke to take home the trophy...
