Weekend Wrap: Basketball Blues, A Blurb About Benjamin Button, Babe & Bonehead Of The Week

In today's edition of Fantasy Focus I'll briefly discuss the importance of never giving up.  Although things may look bleak, it's essential that you continue to make moves in an effort to turn the tide.

As a perennial fantasy basketball champion, I now find myself in the unusual position of being in 5th place midway through the season in the twelve team Langdon League.  Team Sarah Palin has fallen on hard times because of two reasons:  1)  My bench players haven't produced and 2) Players on a few of the other teams have just played at a much higher level.

The fact that three of my top eight players have missed significant time because of injuries is a factor.  However, it's a relatively small one because other top teams have dealt with injury woes as well.  The bottom line is that my team flat out hasn't gotten it done.

Fortunately, there is still another half season to be played and the first and second place teams are currently House of Cards and The Bubble Is About To Burst.   HOC has Tracy McGrady, Jermaine O'Neal, Shaquille O'Neal and Yao Ming.  Oh, and Von Wafer is currently one of this team's top performers.  In other words, it's only a matter of time before the cards come crashing down.

On the other hand, TBIATB still really only has eight reliable/semi-reliable players that have carried his team all year long.  Included in the eight are Dwight Howard, Jason Kidd, Kevin Durant, Mike Bibby and guy named Jameer who has been playing out of his mind the whole season.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that my team isn't even close to being out of contention.  It won't be easy, but optimism abounds and a return to first place is only five or six weeks away...

"The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" received thirteen Academy Award nominations and is the odds on favorite to capture Best Picture.   I enjoyed the movie immensely, although it was manipulative at times and seemed a bit like "Forrest Gump" meets "Titanic".  With a running time of two hours and forty minutes it was also at least a half hour too long.  That said, look for Ben Button to take home the top prize on February 22nd in a close race over "Slumdog Millionaire"...

She doesn't know it yet, but former Miss Universe, Dayanara Torres, has a supporting role in a new film called "Be Happy" that will likely be coming out at the end of 2009.  More about this romantic comedy (or as "we" say in the business, RomCom) in the coming weeks...

The SDSG gets the Bonehead of the Week award for including Hedo Turkoglu in six player trade a few days ago.  It was against my better judgment and I never should have agreed to do it.  Inexcusable...simply inexcusable.
