Top Five Very Good/Great Movies That Veered Off The Track At Some Point During The Last 45 Minutes, The 2009 Oscars Had Far More Highlights Than Lowlights & A Gheorghe Muresan Sighting

5)  I'm 100% sure director David Lynch can't even explain the last 1/3 of the movie.  The first 2/3 is very good though and Laura Harring has several memorable scenes...

4)  "Stripes" is still one of my ten favorite movies of all-time.  However, the road trip to the Czech Republic was definitely a script misstep...

3)  The first sixty pages of the screenplay is very solid.  However, I think the Coen brothers wrote the last forty pages of "No Country for Old Men" at a 24 hour diner while drinking rancid coffee and eating stale donuts...

2)  R. Lee Ermey and Vincent D'Onofrio were brilliant in the first half of "Full Metal Jacket" but the second half of the movie paled in comparison.

1)  "Wedding Crashers" is still one of the best comedies of the decade, but the movie lost focus shortly after Christopher Walken and Vince Vaughn's bedroom scene...

Oscars Highlights

Halle Berry

1)  Halle Berry certainly didn't disappoint

Oscars Ratings On The Rise

2)  Beyonce strutting her stuff

Sophia Loren

3)  74-year old Sophia Loren didn't look her age from the neck down

Honorable Mention...

4)  Will Smith's "Boom Goes The Dynamite" reference probably went over the heads of 80% of the audience, but I enjoyed it immensely.  Here is a link  in case you haven't seen it before...

5)  Taj P. Henson did a splendid job as Ben Button's mom and deserved a best supporting actress award.  However, Penelope Cruz was also sensational in "Vicky Cristina Barcelona"

6)  Hugh Jackman is quite a talent and did a nice job as host of the show.  On a scale of 1-5, I'd give him 3.5 Kemp's Kids T-shirts

7)  Ben Stiller impersonating Joaquin Phoenix

8)  Steve Martin and Tina Fey's routine as presenters for the screenplay awards

Oscars Lowlights

Tilda Swinton

1)  Tilda Swinton managed to appear both ghastly and ghostly.  Some time in the sun would do wonders for this exceptional actress...

2) "Wall-E" was nominated for a best original screenplay award?  Huh?  There were about 100 lines of dialogue in the whole film.  I enjoyed the message of the movie, but must have nodded off two or three times while watching it...

3)  I was really looking forward to hearing Mickey Rourke's acceptance speech for best actor.  I guess I'll have to wait another year or two for my man Mickey...

Have you ever wondered what happened to 7'7" Gheorge Muresan? Here is a short article along with two funny commercials featuring the gentle giant...
