The $64,000 Guarantee

No, I'm not putting up $64,000 that the Charlotte Bobcats are going to make the playoffs...although someone should because thanks to Boris Diaw it's going to happen.

My  fourth post of the day is about an Oklahoma Sooners female college basketball player named Courtney Paris who said that she would give back her scholarship money if the school doesn't win the national championship.

I like Courtney's chutzpah, but she's probably a bonehead for saying it.  Although, come to think of it, I wouldn't want to be the one trying to collect the 64K form Courtney.  Based on the picture above, Ms. Paris looks like she could kick the shit out of Blake Griffin and everybody else in the state of Oklahoma.

It turns out the  6'4" 240 pound Paris is the daughter of behemoth former 49ers offensive lineman Bubba Paris.  Thanks to reader M. Oden for sending in the following story...

If OU misses title, Paris to return scholarship

Star would give back $64,000 if third-ranked Sooners fail to win it all

Oklahoma women's basketball star Courtney Paris said she will give back her scholarship money if the Sooners don't win the national championship, the Daily Oklahoman reported.

Paris, who made the guarantee during a speech on senior night, would be giving back close to $64,000, the Oklahoman reported.

"I have a passion for our fans and university, and I want to do something special," Paris said, the newspaper reported. "That's why I put my scholarship on the table. I meant what I said."

The No. 3 Sooners are the top seed for the Big 12 tournament and a likely No. 1 seed in the NCAA women's tournament, but they did lose at top-ranked Connecticut 106-78 on Nov. 30.

"I feel like we're not missing pieces," Paris said, the newspaper reported. "If we play hard, we execute, we are a great team that can win a national championship.

"If we don't do that, it won't be because we're not good enough."

And her sister, Ashley Paris, backed her up, the newspaper reported.

"We’ll win a national championship, so I’m hoping she’s not going to have to pay it back,” Ashley Paris said, the Oklahoman reported. "We’re going to try and work hard so she doesn’t have to.

"But if anything horrible goes wrong, I’ll hold her accountable for paying it back.”
