Did Colin Cowherd Really Say The Word Slitty? WTF?

I'm sure Manny, The Waffler and Kobe's right elbow will be dominating the sports headlines today, but I have to briefly comment on something I heard on the radio earlier this morning.

At approximately 9:00 a.m., Colin Cowherd was talking about the Ramirez suspension and whether ManRam's Hall of Fame caliber statistics are now tainted.  I completely agreed with Cowherd's premise that all of these guys (Bonds, McGwire, A-Rod, Sosa, Clemens etc.) should be in the Hall of Fame...regardless of any performance enhancing drugs that were taken.

To make his point, Cowherd then began rattling off types of pitchers the hitters back in the 50's and 60's never had to face.  Black pitchers, Korean pitchers and middle relievers were three examples that were cited.  Fine...so far so good.  Cowherd then said that Manny "never had to face a slitty."  Say what?

Could he have really said that on the air?  I mean, I wouldn't even write that in a blog that is read by a couple hundred people let alone say it on a national radio show heard by a couple million.

Did anybody else hear this?  I have to think Cowherd is going to be forced to issue a public apology (and perhaps be looking at a brief suspension himself).   For all I know an apology has already been issued because I only listen to the show for about twenty minutes a day during my morning commute.

I know there are a couple of die-hard Cowherd apologists who read Shawn Kemp's Kids so please let me know if Cowherd apologized later in the show.  If he actually said something other than that derogatory word and I didn't hear it correctly then I'll certainly apologize as well.  However, I don't think that is the case...

***OK, upon further review it appears as though Colin Cowherd was talking about a specific type of pitch.  However, I've been following baseball my whole life and never heard the term before.  Sorry Colin, you're off the hook...this time- SDSG
