Could The Denver Nuggets Kiss Both The Lakers and Cavaliers Goodbye?

Here is what I wrote about the Nuggets back on May 4th...

Look out for the high flying Denver Nuggets.  Although there is still a lot of basketball to be played, it looks like it will be Denver's destiny to meet the Los Angeles Lakers in the Western Conference Finals.  While the Lakers are certainly loaded, don't count out the Nuggets because they have enough talent to keep pace:

  • Chauncey Billups holds a huge edge over Derek Fisher and Jordan Farmar at the point
  • Carmelo Anthony will find a way to get his 20+ points every game
  • J.R. Smith (and occasionally) Linas Kleiza provide unmatched fire power off the bench
  • Dahntay Jones is a solid defender that can at least slow Kobe down
  • The Nuggets have four effective post men to combat the Lakers Big 3 of Gasol, Odom and Bynum

After finishing off the Mavericks last night, Denver has made it to the Western Conference finals for the first time in almost a quarter-century.  The team is firing on all cylinders and will be a formidable foe for both the Lakers and Cleveland LeBrons.

If they can somehow find a way to get past the Lakers, Denver also matches up very well with the Cavs.  While James is going to get 20-25 points per game, the Nuggets possess three solid defenders in Dahntay Jones, Birdman Andersen and seldom used Renaldo Balkman that will really make him expend a lot of energy to do it.

I really enjoy watching this Denver team and particularly like the big red lips on power forward Kenyon Martin's neck.  I'll tell you what, if the Nuggets win the championship I'm going to get a similar tattoo on my neck.   My wife and kids will love it...
