Teflon Towers Thinks Tony Gwynn Jr. Will Lead Padres To World Series

After failing to deal pitching ace Jake Peavy to the Chicago White Sox for assorted flotsam and jetsam, Kevin Towers acquired Tony Gwynn Jr. from the Milwaukee Brewers for Jody Gerut yesterday.  Yippee!!  The acquisition of Gwynn Jr. will definitely guarantee the Padres a berth in the World Series come October.

What...you don't think so?  OK, me neither.  However, the move will save the team $1 million in salary.  The giveaway of Peavy to the Chisox for (reportedly) four minor leaguers would have saved the Padres another $50 million or so over the next 3+ years.

Kevin Towers is the general manager and can do whatever he wants.  However, I'd highly recommend that he get at least a couple of bona fide major league players in any deal for one of the top twelve starting pitchers in baseball.  Am I asking too much?
