Jefferson Dealt For Three Scrubs: What The Buck Is John Hammond Doing?

Richard Jefferson is no longer a member of the Milwaukee Bucks.  A few hours ago, GM John Hammond gave Jefferson to the Spurs for three expiring contracts.  The move is essentially a salary dump that could eventually enable the team to resign restricted free agent Ramon Sessions (pictured above).

Theoretically, I have no problem dealing Jefferson and his big contract.  However, Hammonds had to get something of value back in return and he got absolutely nothing.  At the very least, a player like young point guard George Hill should have been included in the deal.  Instead the Bucks will receive three bench warmers who have zero chance of being on the roster after next season.

While I'm pleased that Sessions is now likely to stay, I'm a bit worried that Hammonds will decide to throw a ton of money at the inconsistent Charlie Villanueva as well.  Signing the injury-prone Villanueva to anything more than a three year $20 million deal would be a major mistake.  Hopefully Hammond is thinking sign and trade with Villanueva.  If not, the Bucks will be fortunate to win 30 games next year...
