Jerry Rice Says Norv Turner Is The Worst Head Coach He Has Ever Had & Shawne Merriman Won't Be On The San Diego Chargers Roster Next Season

According to radio talk show host Steve Mason, the best wide receiver in NFL history thinks Norv Turner is the worst head coach he ever had...even dating back to pee-wee football.  Check out this clip from "Rome Is Burning" earlier today.

Norv is a very good offensive coordinator and probably a solid family man, but he is in way over his head as an NFL coach.  Here is a recent post from Pacman Jonesin' that helps illustrate just how out of touch Norvie happens to be:  Norv Turner Is Delusional.  Hell, there are even awards being named after Turner for his incompetence:  Good, Bad & Ugly

Earlier today, Chargers general manager A.J. Smith accused the team of being soft at times.  Of course, Smith is right.  However, he is the one who fired Marty Schottenheimer after a 14-2 season and hired Norv Turner as coach!  Obviously the team, particularly the defense, has adopted the soft and spineless disposition of its head coach.

When asked to comment about Smith's remarks, outspoken linebacker Shawne Merriman said the following:

"I don't know too much of that. That's an opinion of a person, and it's not needed," Merriman said. "We know that we have to play better. We met for an extra hour and a half as a defense as a whole to discuss what we need to do and things we need to do to get better. And we're going to make adjustments in this locker room as far as players and our attitudes and getting after people a little more. But all that extra (stuff) is not needed at all. The only opinions that matter to me are the ones in this locker room. Anything else, it doesn't matter."

Ouch.  The GM's opinion doesn't matter, huh?  Smith is as no-nonsense as it gets and there is a better chance of the SDSG starting at outside linebacker for the Chargers next season than Mr. Merriman.
