Mel Kiper Is A Pompous Pontificator Along With A Few Thoughts About The First Round Of The NFL Draft, Liz Lemon, Jack Donaghy & Abed

Last night was definitely Must See TV.  With the first round of the NFL Draft, three NBA playoff games, 30 Rock and Community all packed into one night there were a lot of sensational moments.  Here are four of them:

4.  Denver Broncos Gamble On Tim Tebow & His Unorthodox Throwing Motion- So called NFL Draft pundits were down on Tebow, but that didn’t deter Josh McDaniels at all.  Look for Tebow to excel in short yardage and wildcat formations all year for the Broncos.

3.  Abed Is Taking Over Prime Time TV One Day At A Time – Abed was center stage in last night’s episode of Community and knocked it out of the park with homages to Good Fellas, Casino and Sixteen Candles.

2.  Kobe Bryant Vs. Kevin Durant- The kid literally took over the game in the second half and that pull up 27 footer in transition was beyond sick.  The Lakers will still probably prevail in the series but it’s going to be an absolute war.

1.  Mel Kiper -Smoke could literally be seen coming out of this pompous pontificator’s ears as Jimmy “The 4th Best Prospect In The Entire Draft” Clausen continued to be ignored in the first round.  The amount of smoke reached critical mass when Tebow was plucked off the board by the Broncos.  Hey Kiper, take your unorthodox throwing motion and shove it up your ass.  Oh, and while you’re at it go f%ck yourself too!

In addition to the Broncos wheelin' and dealin' to get Tebow and Demaryius Thomas, I also thought the San Diego Chargers were big winners in the NFL Draft.  Sure, at first glance it looks like they gave up a lot to land running back Ryan Matthews.  However, upon closer inspection it's actually a solid deal for both San Diego and Miami.

In actuality, the Chargers merely gave up 3rd string quarterback Charlie Whitehurst to move up sixteen slots in the first round to select a potential franchise running back.  The Bolts also parted ways with reserve linebacker Tim Dobbins for a sixth round pick and the right to exchange positions with the Dolphins in the 4th round.  If general manager A.J. Smith is also able to acquire a nose tackle, defensive back and pass rusher (DE or outside linebacker) during the next few days or weeks then he deserves major props.

As mentioned above, the breakout star of the freshman sitcom Community didn't disappoint last night.  Neither did the stars from the maddeningly inconsistent 30 Rock.  The show never fails to shine when Jack Donaghy and Liz Lemon are prominently featured and/or share the screen.  When these two characters don't get most of the screen time it's usually trouble.  Last night's episode hit on the winning formula of 75% Jack & Liz, 10% Tracy, 10% Frank, Lutz & the other writers, 4% Jenna and 1% Kenneth.   Hopefully this formula will continue for the remainder of the season.
