Lakers Down But Not Out; Five Reasons Los Angeles Will Still Likely Beat Boston In The NBA Finals

Yesterday a reader accused me of "running an anti-Lakers blog."  Say what?  I live in Southern California and am many things...but anti-Lakers isn't one of them.

Sure, I've said that Phil Jackson is the luckiest guy in NBA history.  However, the fact that I think Jackson is a very lucky man doesn't mean I'm anti-Lakers.

I also happened to think that Kobe Bryant is supremely talented and one of the five best NBA players of all-time.  Bryant's off the court decisions (Incident with Colorado hotel employee and recent photo shoot are two examples) might be highly suspect, but there is no question that he can ball with the best of them.

On Wednesday I provided a list of 10 things Boston needed to do to beat the Lakers in Game 4.  Well, nine of those things happened and the Celtics were able to even the series at 2-2.

Andrew Bynum's knee problems are a major concern for the Lakers, but there are five reasons Los Angeles should still emerge victorious when it's all said and done:

1.  The Lakers possess the two best players in the series -  Kobe and Pau Gasol are the two best players and it isn't even close.  Boston might have the 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th best players but the Lakers Big Two should be enough to win a second consecutive title.

2.  The Lakers have the home court advantage - Even if the Celtics prevail in Game 5, the Lakers can still take care of business at the Staples Center on Tuesday and Thursday.

3.  Lamar Odom and Ron Artest - While LO and Ron-Ron are definitely inconsistent head cases, their talent can't be denied.  If both show up in at least two of the remaining three games then the Lakers should be able to eke out a couple victories.

4.  Shannon Brown and Josh Powell - Brown hasn't played enough minutes and Powell hasn't played at all.  If Phil Jackson really is a phenomenal head coach then I expect this will change for the remainder of the series.  With Bynum hobbling, Powell in particular needs to be on the floor for at least 15 minutes a game.

5.  Derek Fisher -  Although at times he is completely overmatched, DFish certainly has a knack for nailing clutch shots.  I'd be very surprised if Fisher doesn't hit at least one game winner between now and Thursday night.
