The Way Los Angeles Lost Has To Concern Phil Jackson: Can Khlomar Come Through In Game 6?

What a sensational tip in by Rajon Rondo in last night's thrilling Game 5 victory over the Lakers.  Kobe, Pau and Lamar now have to stagger back to Staples down 3-2 after losing two straight to the Celtics.  What happened?

Well, let's look at some of the numbers:

  • Andrew Bynum: 31 minutes, 6 points and 1 rebound
  • Only two Lakers reached double figures: Bryant (38 pts) and Gasol (12 pts)
  • Josh Powell:  Zero minutes; DNP-CD
  • Shannon Brown:  Played a grand total of 19 seconds
  • Luke Walton: 7 minutes and goose eggs other than 1 turnover and 1 assist

Bottom line: nobody except Kobe Bryant showed up.  That includes head coach Phil "The Zen Master" Jackson.  Luke Walton?  No Josh Powell?  Shannon Brown for only 19 seconds?  Where was the intensity?  Where was the sense of urgency?

Isn't a healthy Josh Powell a better option than a 60% Andrew Bynum?  I love Bynum's passion and willingness to play through pain but he clearly isn't close to 100%.  Powell needs to be on the court for 15 minutes a game.  Period.

Luke Walton simply should not leave the bench.  The only guy on Boston that he can guard is Brian Scalabrine and Scallie has been in street clothes the entire series.  Watching Walton chase around Paul Pierce was painful.

Shannon Brown possesses the athleticism and skills to be a major factor in the series.  Why Derek Fisher is playing 30+ minutes is beyond me.  Brown should be playing large stretches of the 2nd and 3rd quarters of every game.  Only Jackson knows why that isn't happening.

Finally, the enigma wrapped up in a riddle otherwise known as Lamar Odom has to be a major force or the Lakers won't win the series.  Odom looked good at times yesterday, but LO has to bring the intensity every minute he's on the court.  Eight points and eight rebounds aren't going to cut it...especially with Bynum hobbling.

If Khlomar doesn't finish tomorrow night's game with 16 points, 12 rebounds and a couple blocks then the Lakers will likely be watching the Celtics celebrating on their home court.  Is Mr. Kardashian up to the challenge?  I guess we'll soon find out...

The author here has given a detailed account of the match. In my view Shannon Brown should have played for a little longer. He is a really talented player and he is a player to watch. He has got good stamina. I wonder why he was allowed to play for only 19 seconds. In his place Derek fisher was made to play for more than 30 minutes. In my view the coach alone should be blamed for this stupid decision.
