Don Nelson: A Comprehensive Retrospective

Don Nelson is the all-time NBA leader in victories.  How many titles has Nellie won? Zero.  That about sums up his coaching career.

Well, here are five other things that immediately come to mind:

1. Banishing players into his doghouse every single year

2. Stomping around the court and throwing his jacket back in his days with the Bucks

3. Exposing his sizable gut at some point each game

4.  Tormenting fantasy hoops owners with fickle substitution patterns

5. Hanging around to get the wins record (and a paycheck) despite being burned out a decade ago

A little harsh on Nellie. Where the NBA have been without the Point-Forward (see Paul Pressey), and Manute Bol gunning 3's... Is it genious or madness to take your 7' 6" center and put him where he has no chance to leverage his height.

Comments on the 4 team pending Melo trade? Dampier to the Bucks? As always waiting on the edge of my seat for your wisdom.

Yeah, I contemplated putting something in about the innovation of the point-forward, Manute launching 3's and also Nellie's fish ties...but they just failed to make the cut.

I have a plethora of thoughts about Melo Mania and the possibility of Dampier joining the Bucks.  Will likely wait until Monday though...

    6. Nellie should probably have worn a larger mock turtleneck for that picture.

Excellent retrospective on Nellie's career. At a certain point, you have to win it all if you are great at what you do. All Nellie has is longetivity. He is not a Hall of Fame coach. He should disappear in history like Chuck Knox and Marty Schottenheimer.
