San Diego Sports Guy Sounds Off About Several Subjects: Bucks, Boob Tube, Wall Street Sequel & More




The best thing about having this little blog is that I can just empty my mind of various thoughts and opinions whenever the mood strikes me. Today is one of those days.  In no particular order, here are a few things that have been rattling around in my cranium:

1.  Fear the Deer - Hey, what do you know.  Drew Gooden decided to shave his neck hair and grotesque beard.  The new Bucks big man will likely be a pivotal player this season and the league will definitely need to Fear the Deer. GM John Hammond has assembled a very versatile team and deserves props.  If Milwaukee isn't at least a 5 seed this year it will be a disappointment.

2.  Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps - As many readers already know, "Wall Street" is one of my twenty favorite movies of all-time.  Once I learned that a sequel was being made I was beyond excited to see Gordon Gekko's return to the silver screen.  Well, after seeing the sequel on Saturday I regret to say that it was underwhelming to say the least.  Michael Douglas turned in a solid performance, but the movie meandered all over the map and was at least a half hour too long.  Charlie Sheen's cameo was very enjoyable, but Carey Mulligan and Shia LeBeouf failed to deliver the goods. On a scale of 1-5 I'd give the flick 3 1/2 Kemp's Kids T-Shirts and recommend that you wait for the DVD.

3.  Pirates Fire John Russell - Well, that will fix everything.  Look for Pittsburgh to win it all next year!  The Pirates are an absolute joke and will never be relevant again unless there is a change of ownership.  Raise your hand if you knew Russell had been the Pirates manager for the past three seasons. Anyone?  I sure as hell didn't.  It doesn't matter who is hired next.  A .500 record is the best it's going to get in Pittsburgh for a very long time.

4.  Jason Schwartzman is not funny - HBO's "Bored To Death" is back for a second season and it is absolutely baffling to me why Jason Schwartzman was cast in the lead role.  The man is not and never has been even the least bit amusing.  It's a shame because the comically brilliant Zach Galifianakis and Ted Danson deserve better.  The show certainly has potential but Schwartzman simply sucks the life out of every scene he is in.  How does this guy keep getting work?  Someone please enlighten me.

    I think I'll wait for Wall Street Jr. to come out on DVD. Have you ever seen Boiler Room where the guys all get together and mimic Gekko in the original? A classic scene.

    It'll take more than just a new manager to help the Buccos.

    And I don't get HBO so I'll just have to take your word for it.

      Redd is a complete after thought in Milwaukee.  He should have been dealt 2 years ago when the Bucks had the chance to get something decent for him.  Yep, they will be battling the Hawks for the 5th seed...unless the Bulls struggle.  I don't see that happening though.  With a healthy Boozer the Bulls are a better team than Milwaukee. 

      Loved "Boiler Room" when I saw it several years ago.  Still Vin Diesel's best performance.

      Spot on, Tito.  Although if I'm not mistaken there was also a 1.5 second reaction shot of Skiles on the bench after the Jennings missed shot.

      Bucks can't get any respect...even with a very solid roster and chance to be a 50 plus win team!

      Tito knows where to go to get the truth!  Both current and former Bucks big men love the SDSG's no holds barred commentary on Shawn Kemp's Kids.   Dan Gadzuric(around), Brad Lohaus, Ervin Johnson and Kent Benson are also avid readers.
