Should The Los Angeles Lakers Be Blown Up? Phil Jackson Goes Out With A Thud As Team Gets Swept By Mavs

The self-proclaimed greatest coach in NBA history left the court yesterday afternoon with his tail between his legs as the Lakers were absolutely humiliated by the Dallas Mavericks 122-86.

Truth be told, Jackson didn't even start coaching this season until Game 3 against the Mavs.  However, by the time "The Zenmaster" went Bobby Knight on Pau Gasol during the game it was too little too late.  The Lakers were a dead team walking.

While Jackson skips off to Montana with $50 million in the bank, the Laker organization can best be described  right now as Team Turmoil.  Magic Johnson has called for the team to blown up immediately and I don't disagree.

What can be done?  For starters, a legitimate point guard is needed.  Steve Blake is nothing more than a 12 minute per game back up and Derek Fisher is simply the worst starting point guard in the league.  Many are clamoring for Chris Paul to be brought in to save the day.  Is this possible? Perhaps, but a more realistic alternative might be Denver's Raymond Felton.

While CP3 is likely a pipe dream, the possibility of Dwight Howard joining the Lakers is not so far-fetched.  Howard would love to land in L.A. and Mitch Kupchak has the assets to make it happen.  Dealing the Magic two of the following three players would definitely get it done:  Pau Gasol, Lamar Odom or Andrew "All Class" Bynum.

The odds of acquiring both CP3 and Superman would be about 10,000 to 1.  However, right now I'd say the Lakers have about a 50/50 shot of adding Howard between now and the start of the 2011-12 season.  Well, if there is a season that is.

It should be a very interesting summer for the Lakers...
