Will Lakers Look To Acquire Monta Ellis Or Andre Iguodala?

Over on FantasySportsGuarantee.com I started speculating about a couple possible deals involving two topflight NBA guards.  Here is an excerpt:

Who would the Lakers have to give up to land one of these guys?  Well, I’d dangle Andrew Bynum in a heartbeat but Jim Buss doesn’t seem to want to part with his young big man.  Although immature and injury prone, admittedly Bynum is one of the few legitimate post men in the league right now.  I certainly wouldn’t give him away for scraps.  However, if I could acquire a couple athletic pieces while simultaneously unloading a bad contract (hello Luke Walton, Ron Artest and/or Steve Blake) it’s a no-brainer in my mind.

Iguodala is by far the better defensive player.  However, the Lakers need another wing shooter/scorer more than a lock down defender.   Come to think of it, Iggy would probably be a better fit across the hallway with the Clippers.  If the Clips were smart, they would deal Chris Kaman and Al-Farouq Aminu  (along with a draft pick if necessary) to Philly for Iggy and 6’10″ PF/C Mareese Speights.   This deal works according to the ESPN NBA Trade Machine and it makes perfect sense for both teams.

Clearly, the Lakers need a player who can penetrate, get to the free line and hit an occasional three-pointer while taking some of the perimeter pressure off of the aging Bryant.  That is Monta Ellis.  Who says no to the following trade?

Ellis and Andris Biedrins for Lamar Odom, Ron Artest and Steve Blake

Golden State would acquire much needed versatility, size and toughness while the Lakers add the dynamic Ellis and intriguing Biedrins to a team that appears to desperately need some new blood/energy.  That trade also works according to the ESPN Trade Machine and I bet the Warriors would bite because they seem to have really soured on the once promising Biedrins.

We know if there's a deal to be made out there, the Lakers will be on the winning end of it, which means the Warriors might want to stay away from that deal.
